<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt"><span style="mso-bidi-font-weight: bold"><font size="3"><font face="Calibri">National Disability Research and Development grants will be awarded to researchers for research that supports the National Disability Agreement, the National Disability Strategy and future reforms such as the National Disability Insurance Scheme.</font></font></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt"><span style="mso-bidi-font-weight: bold"><font size="3"><font face="Calibri"><o:p><span style="mso-bidi-font-weight: bold"><font size="3"><font face="Calibri">A total of $750,000 (ex GST) is available in 2012 for the open competitive funding round.<br />

      <description><![CDATA[  Vale Professor Jim Mansell

 
It is with regret and sadness that ASID notes the recent death of Professor Jim Mansell who passed away on 13 March 2012.
Professor Mansell has made a significant international contribution to the field of intellectual disability and has left a considerable legacy in terms of both the body of literature that he authored (or otherwise contributed to) and the personal impact that he has had on the lives of people with learning difficulties and the community of people involved in supporting them. He has achieved this impact through his personal interactions, his research, his influence on policy development and service reform, and his role in the training and mentorship of many professionals who continue to do what they can to improve the lives of people with intellectual disability.

      <description><![CDATA[<p>ASID has published a code of ethics to inform the education and training of direct support professionals. The code was co-launched in November 2007 during the Australasian-wide conference at Fremantle and the annual ASID DSW Conference at Melbourne. </p>
<p>Twelve (12) ethical principles have been identified and a series of supporting guidelines developed. The guidelines are designed to inform the professional conduct of individual direct support professionals, for use as part of agency-based induction and in-service training and to inform curriculum content for TAFE, polytechnic, RTO and university courses.</p>]]></description>
